Europe > Poland > Warsaw (travel diary) Visiting the chinese in Warszawa
Some days ago I met an Indonesian girl at the train station in Gdansk [see diary entry from 2nd July]. We decided to meet again and that she would bring her ex-room mate, a chinese girl.
At first we only sat together and chatted a bit at the university pub, but the Indonesian had to go after a while. So I followed the chinese to church.
Every week she attend this "protestant evening worship" [I am uncertain if that's the correct translation]. The unique with this church is that the priest is chinese, the bibles are in chinese and all people present are chinese. Well, except me. I am not a believer but I like nice and friendly people, the chinese language and unique vacation moments. This was perfect!
The ceremony wasn't held in a traditional church, it was held in the biggest room in a three room appartment. I was told they usually use a real church but today the weather was too bad.
Before the ceremony we ate traditional chinese food together. I thought it was fun that I actually could understand some of the chinese words from the chatting around me. Not many though, haha!
Time for ceremony
The priest had a computer connected to a projector. Seventeen chinese and I sat on chairs facing the priest. Behind us sat a keyboard player. The priest preached, there were discussions and we sang psalms. Impossible for me to follow the psalms (since I can't read chinese). But fun.
While singing psalms, lyrics were shown on the projector screen. In the background photos from their past activities were shown. Yes, almost like karakoke :)
Not everyone coming here are Christians. Most people come here to learn about Christianity and to learn about the land they are currently living in. Meeting other chinese people living in Warsaw is also a big reason.
Two important chinese words in this context:
Jesus = 耶 稣 (ye1 su1)
Paradise = 天 堂 (tian1 tang2)
I hope I can meet this nice people another time. See you!
