The night at the hostel in Gdansk was OK. Temperature ok and the smell was gone. But I got good use for my ear plugs ;)
Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot are three cities very close to eachother. Together they are called the TriCity. Between these cities yellow/blue trains are going back and forth. From Gdansk to Gdynia is about 25 minutes (Sopot is inbetween).
In Gdynia I visited a outdoor museum med namnet Muzeum Marynarki Wojennej. Helicopter, airplanes, mines, cannons, etc. It was interesting too see these. I think most objects was from the World War II.
Then, after walking up the mountain behind the museum for a view of Gdynia, and after I checked out the warship from the World War II at the southern pier, and after taking a look at the beach, I took the train to Sopot.
Now I found all the tourists... Everyone was here in Sopot. The Monte Cassino road is tourist street number one. Lots of people, restaurants and street performers.
When I walked around in this small town, doing nothing special, a big thunderstorm hit. So I took the train back to Gdansk and bought a cinema ticket ( 19 zloty). Pixar's Ratatouille or Shrek could have been nice, but they were dubbed to polish, so I chose Ocean's Thirteen. Pretty good entertainment.
Today I was at the Heineken Opene'er Festival. It's a festival with contemporary music and this year it's located on an air field not far from Gdynia. It's a three day festival and today, sunday, it was the final day. This was the only day I had ticket for. The reason for that was because Björk was playing today and the other days did not look that interesting to me.
I arrived to the festival at 2:30 pm and took a nap in the grass because they didn't open until one hour later. I got filmed when lying there sleeping. I don't know if it was for internal festival video, TV or something else. Keep an eye open on polish television ;).
Yesterday it rained cats and dogs here and I was told many people got sick. But today they sky was clear, and from time to time really warm. I was lucky!
Björk played late at night. The reason why I chosed going to Poland this summer was actually because Björk was playing here. She has nice live shows and often perform new versions of her songs.
Before Björk entered the stage I had some hours to check out other festival bands. The polish Novika was a pleasent suprise. She and her band played some nice songs.
Another nice performance was the polish Me, Myself and I. An a-capella group with a rather talented beatbox guy.
Björk
The Björk performance was really good with songs from her whole career. Hunter, Yoga, I Miss You and Earth Intruders were some of my favourites. The atmosphere was from time to time pretty intense and especially the last song "Declare Independence" was really intense, and the strobe lights fitted it good :).
I have recorded lots of video and sound from her show. I will upload some when I am back in Sweden.
