(travel diary) Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Category: Bavaria, 2006
The hostel that we had checked in to was located very badly. About 4-5 km from the city and it also was pretty expensive so we decided to get into town to find a better place to live.

The tourist information in town found a good place for us. We landed in the basement floor in a private bed-and-breakfast style house. The little place was owned by the friendly Fischer couple. They lived here and had three rooms with one bed each for hire. I guess their children had moved out. This was perfect!

The remaining hours of the day we checked out the old town. We also visited the old Olympic Ski Jumping Arena from 1936.

Tomorrow there will be some high-altitude skiing! Tobbe has never done that before.

Here is the house of the friendly family Fischer. We stayed here for two nights. I can recommend this place for anyone.

Talk with the tourist info in town if you want to live here. The Fischers told us that they were thinking about closing the business. But who knows, maybe the place is still available.

20 Euro per night per person.

Every other façade here in this city/village is painted in a style called lüftmalerei. On this one only the window glass, door and balcony is real. The bricks, the statues, and the window frames are painted, with shadows and everything.

(travel diary) Skiing in the Alps

Category: Bavaria, 2006
We took the Zugspitze-bahn (train) from Garmisch hauptbahnof (central station) to the Eibsee Seilbahn (the Eibsee cable car) at the foot of Germany's highest mountain: the Zugspitz (2964 m).

Some Eibsee Seilbahn data:
- Length: 4450 m
- Altitude difference: 1950 m!
- Duration: about 10 minutes

Unfortunately, the windows in the cable car were very icy so I've have no video clips from it.

Since we would only ski one day, we decided to visit the ski area at the highest altitude, at the zugspitze plateau (about 2000-2950 above sea level). It was very beautiful here, above the clouds. Clear blue sky and hot in the sun. The snow was perfect! Tobbe was doing great even though this was his first time skiing.

Got home to the Fischer's at about 18:00. We felt that we needed some resting before doing anything else. Planned was to visit a internet café and maybe play some pool, but instead we slept all night.

Picture on the "kings of the hills"New window :)
