(travel diary) Arrival: Lucknow

Category: India, 2007
(short summarize)

Arrived to Lucknow at lunch time. To get here we took a night bus from Agra to Kanpur. After reaching Kanpur in the morning, we jumped on a bus to Lucknow. We had planned to take a direct train from Agra to Varanasi but everything was fully booked.

After founding a hotel in Lucknow, we slept for the rest of the day.

(travel diary) A sunday in Lucknow

Category: India, 2007
Today I checked out some things on my own in Lucknow.

To start with, I bought two train tickets that will take Tobias and me to Varanasi. The train will depart tomorrow at 7 AM. Arrival is scheduled to about 1 PM. The tickets cost 322 rupees each (AC chair).

Then, I went shopping. Since it's sunday today many shops are closed, but I found a bunch that were open. I bought a pair of new sandals, one of the pricier models from a local brand (price 599 rupees). I also bought lots of magazines for the train trip tomorrow and a book on how to play sitar. I have no sitar, but still it will be an interesting read.

I still had some time to spend so I took a rickshaw to the Lucknow Zoo. I don't really like the idea of animals in cages, but I needed somewhere I could spend my time and it could be interesting visting a zoo in India. The entry fee was 10 rupees
The zoo was a dissapointment. Most cages stood empty and the cages that actually had some inhabitants looked like desert. At least I could find a couple lions, a poor elephant and a big poor rhino.
I think the biggest attraction in the zoo was me, at least the Indians seemed to think that. I am beginning to get used to this, haha.

Then, I saw the TV in the blue little box.
