Our train departed yesterday from Jaisalmer at 5 PM. At 5 AM this morning we reached our destination Jaipur.
From the train trip:
- Beggers. A young boy is crawling at the train floor and wipes it with his shirt. Then reaches out his hand and asks for money.
- "Sew-on-the-go". Example: A man points at my bag, "Sir, I can fix this. This not very good". Instead of using the buckle, I have made a knot. A good business moment from his point of view. The sew-man also had "super glue" for our sandals.
- Chai (tea) salesmen.
- Loud conversations on hindi.
- Sand from the desert in the train and covers everything with a thin layer.
These ingredients produces a special atmosphere. Its a little bit more interesting taking a train in India. A bit hard to sleep, though. And too bad my sandals were stolen when I was sleeping.
In Jaipur, we are now staying at a hotel named Jaipur Inn with AC and private bathroom. Pretty good place.
After some resting and food at the hotel, we are now exploring the city. Currently, a bit unexpected, the rain is pouring down! A good time to do some internet surfing.
I don't know what we will do the rest of the day. Time will tell :)
Update:
We went to a Bollywood cinema (each ticket 55 rupees). Don't know the movie name, but I will investigate that. The story was a typical bollywood story: man, woman, love and marriage. One thing that I really missed in the movie was big scenes with lots of dancers. A good India movie has to feature that stuff! :D The soundtrack was pretty ok though. And for those people who wants to know (Moinul), Aishwarya Rai did not act in this flic.
What more? Well, for the first time we found a McDonalds here in India. A standard meal is about 65 rupees. I bought a veggie roll and a strawberry shake. Not bad.
For about 20 rupees You'll get a bag of peanuts for the monkeys. But take my advice here: hide the nuts or keep them in a tight grip. Both the children and the monkeys will try to get hold of them.
