(travel diary) Visiting the Longmen grottoes

Category: China, 2006
More caves and sculptures.

A local bus ( 1 Yuan single journey) drove us to the Long Men grottoes 16 km south of Luoyang. The Longmen and the Yungang grottoes is pretty similar but Longmen features more smaller caves and Longmen is also set in a more beautiful environment with the river Yi He in the middle.
On the bus we met a chinese girl named "Apple". We walked together with her at the visit to the grottoes and we also decided to eat dinner together. At first we thought about trying one of the Luoyang specialties, the floating banquet, which consists of about 24 dishes which just flows or "floats" into the dinner table in a steady pace. But, our chosen restaurant had pretty high prices so we let Apple pick four dishes four us to share. The sweet and sour dish was really tasty (see picture).

Later this evening we took the night train to Shanghai! See you there!

These dishes are more or less typical for Luoyang. Down left is the wonderfull sweet and sour sauce, really nice. Down/right is chicken. I don't really know about the other dishes, but I know they were hot and spicy!
