Here is the house of the friendly family Fischer. We stayed here for two nights. I can recommend this place for anyone.

Talk with the tourist info in town if you want to live here. The Fischers told us that they were thinking about closing the business. But who knows, maybe the place is still available.

20 Euro per night per person.

Every other façade here in this city/village is painted in a style called lüftmalerei. On this one only the window glass, door and balcony is real. The bricks, the statues, and the window frames are painted, with shadows and everything.

(travel diary) Skiing in the Alps

Category: Bavaria, 2006
We took the Zugspitze-bahn (train) from Garmisch hauptbahnof (central station) to the Eibsee Seilbahn (the Eibsee cable car) at the foot of Germany's highest mountain: the Zugspitz (2964 m).

Some Eibsee Seilbahn data:
- Length: 4450 m
- Altitude difference: 1950 m!
- Duration: about 10 minutes

Unfortunately, the windows in the cable car were very icy so I've have no video clips from it.

Since we would only ski one day, we decided to visit the ski area at the highest altitude, at the zugspitze plateau (about 2000-2950 above sea level). It was very beautiful here, above the clouds. Clear blue sky and hot in the sun. The snow was perfect! Tobbe was doing great even though this was his first time skiing.

Got home to the Fischer's at about 18:00. We felt that we needed some resting before doing anything else. Planned was to visit a internet café and maybe play some pool, but instead we slept all night.

(travel diary) To Salzburg in Austria

Category: Bavaria, 2006
Started the morning with a nice breakfast at the Fischers. Then, we thanked them and "checked" out. We continued the morning with a couple of hours at the internet café Play Maxx. Price: 3 Euro per hour. It felt good to catch up with the travel diaries. If you like to play pool, they have some tables here.

Then we walked to the train station. From here we took a train to Salzburg via a train change in Munich. Arrived at about 18 in Salzburg. The journey went well (no broken relays ;)).

The tourist info at the train station gave us some info about two nearby hostels. Our choice landed on the one closest to the station: Yoho hostel. After earlier bad experiences with multi bed rooms, we now chosed a double room... a good night of sleep is worth 3 Euro more! 21 Euro did the room cost (excluding breakfast which be bought at the hostel for 1.5 Euro to 2.5 Euro).

Finnished the day with a walk in the neighbourhood.

(travel diary) Mozart and the fort Hohensalzburg

Category: Bavaria, 2006
Started the day with picking up two tickets for the Mozart concert later today. We booked and payed for the tickets a month ago.
The concert is the opening concert for a series of concerts that will be played around the country in this 250 year jubillee of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Before the concert, we visited Hohensalzburg, one of Europe's biggest fortresses. It's situated on a little mountain and the city is built around it. The fortress gave us a pretty good view over the city. Tobias and I made a puppet movieNew window at a marionette museum up in the fortress.

We then visited Mozart Wohnhaus which is a house in central Salzburg where Mozart lived a couple of years before he moved to Vienna. Exhibitions may be a bit tiring and... well, this one was no exception. But it was pretty interesting to see and hear a couple of the instruments he had played on.

Then we bought some crisp bread, sliced cheese, yoghurt, Dr Oetcker's Müsli, banana, chocolate and mango juice. Tasty food that keeps the food account on a healthy level :)

We had still two hours before the concert started so we went to see the Haus Der Natur ("house of nature"). Most interesting here were the living reptiles and the grotesque looking fishes.

Afterward followed the concert. It was pretty good. The orchestra consisted of about thirty instrumentalists. I got some "benign shivers" (is that the correct words in english?) when they started to play. If you're going to a Mozart concert only one time in your life then do it in Salzburg :)

Two hours and a schnitzel semmel later = Zzzzzzzzz sleep time.

(travel diary) Back to Munich, jazz club

Category: Bavaria, 2006
At first we thought about taking a bus and visit the castle that was featured in the movie "Where Eagles Dare "(1968). But we skipped that since the bus timetable was bad. Furthermore it is closed for visits in the winter so to go there only for a couple of photos seemed too much. More time in Munich was the better choice.

Wombat's hostel became our temporary home this time. It's close to the central station and only a couple of meters from our last hostel here in Munich (Jaeger's). The price is 16 Euro per night per person in a six bed room.

We walked around the town to watch the festives that was going on. A party called Fasching is currently going on around in Munich and in the whole country but by different names. It's a carneval where people gets crazy and dress up like clowns, witches, mobile phones, bears.. anything! Lots of beer, candy, food, scene performances and more. All the food stands play their own music loud! The smallest hot-dog stands tend to play german techno at maximal volume!

Later this evening we went to the jazzclub UnterfahrtNew window (entrance: 13 Euro). A quartet was playing this night (one contrabass, two guitars and a saxophone). Their name was Wawau Adler Quartet. Pretty good. I've uploaded a picture and a movie clip from their performance.
